Of Soil and Self

Every challenge that we face as a society can be traced back to our distorted relationship with the soil – and because of it, every solution lies underneath our feet as well. Of Soil and Self, Helge’s upcoming book, talks about his personal story and experiences working in the organic food movement and offers an in-depth look at the benefits of local and organic agriculture and the connection between environmental and human health, economic viability, and spiritual well being.

Carrying the Father

Carrying the Father is one of the most beautiful and challenging acts for a man to undergo in his lifetime.  We are asking ourselves to do something that was never done for us; to hold something that may have never held us.

Out of Helge’s experience carrying his father during a visit to Germany after a stroke left his dad unable to walk, he is now creating Carrying The Father – a photo essay and coffee-table art book, showing images of 30 young men lifting up and embracing their fathers in their arms.

What do we expect to find when we ask men to pick up their fathers; literally and figuratively hold and work to understand the father and all that he represents?

We recognize that the lack of male integration is at the core of the challenges encountered in human relationship and the exploitation of natural environments.  The wholeness of the masculine – or lack thereof – has received little attention in the media and the arts.

Carrying the Father will open a door to a chapter of intimacy that has yet to be explored.

(The development of Carrying the Father has been in collaboration with Dr. Timothy Dukes.)
